DRDO TBRL Paid Internship 2026 — ₹5,000/Month Stipend for Engineering & Science Students (Apply Before 25 May)

If you’re a third or final year B.Tech student — or a second year M.Sc. student — and you’ve been looking for a government internship that actually pays and actually means something on your resume, this one is worth stopping for.

DRDO’s Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) has opened applications for its Paid Internship 2026 under Advertisement No. TBRL/HRD/PDINTERN/2026/01. The internship runs for 6 months starting 1st July 2026, offers a stipend of ₹5,000 per month (total ₹30,000), and is based at their facility in Chandigarh / Panchkula, Haryana.

The last date to apply is 25 May 2026. That’s not much time, so let’s get straight into it.

What Is TBRL and Why Does This Internship Actually Matter?

TBRL — Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory — is not your average government lab. It operates under DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), which falls directly under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

The lab works on defence-related research, and an internship here means you’re not filing papers in a corner — you’re contributing to actual technical projects in a high-security, high-stakes environment. For your CV, “DRDO TBRL Intern” carries a weight that most private company internships simply don’t.

Beyond the resume value, the experience of working in a defence research setup — the discipline, the documentation standards, the kind of problems they work on — genuinely changes how you think as an engineer or scientist.

Who Can Apply — Eligibility Criteria

This is where most students either qualify themselves out unnecessarily or miss a detail that disqualifies them later. Read this carefully.

For B.Tech / B.E. Students (Category A):

  • Must be studying in 6th semester or beyond (3rd or final year of a 4-year degree)
  • Branches accepted: Aerospace, Chemical, CSE, ECE, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 75% marks (or equivalent CGPA converted to percentage by your college)
  • No backlogs — even a single active backlog disqualifies you
  • Internship must be a formal part of your degree curriculum
  • Age: below 28 years as on 30 June 2026

For M.Sc. Students (Category B):

  • Must be in 2nd year of M.Sc. in Chemistry
  • Same 75% marks requirement and no-backlog rule applies
  • Internship must be part of your degree course

Important: TBRL has clearly stated — no equivalent qualifications or related branches will be considered. If your branch isn’t listed exactly as above, you cannot apply. Don’t try to stretch it.

Branch-Wise Vacancies for TBRL Internship 2026

CSE Computer Science Engineering 07
ECE Electronics & Communication Engineering 09
INE Instrumentation Engineering 01

Category B — M.Sc. Students

Branch Code Discipline Vacancies

Total vacancies across both categories: 37

ECE and Mechanical have the most seats — if you’re from those branches, your chances are relatively better. CSE also has 7 seats which is solid.

Stipend & Payment — How the Money Works

The total stipend is ₹30,000 paid in two equal parts:

  • ₹15,000 after completing 3 months
  • ₹15,000 after completing 6 months

Payment is directly to your bank account. But here’s the condition most students miss — you must attend a minimum of 15 working days per month to be eligible for that month’s stipend. If you fall short of 15 days in any month, that month’s payment is affected.

Also — and this is critical — if you leave the internship before 6 months, you will not receive the completion certificate AND no payment will be made for the incomplete period. TBRL does not issue partial certificates. It’s all or nothing.

Pro-Tip: No accommodation or transport is provided by TBRL. Before applying, research PG options near Panchkula / Chandigarh Sector-30. The area has decent affordable options but book early — July is a busy joining season.

How to Apply for TBRL DRDO Paid Internship 2026

This is an offline application only. No online portal, no Google form. Here’s exactly what you need to do:

Step 1: Download the Application Form

Get the prescribed form from the official DRDO website: 👉 https://drdo.gov.in

Do not create your own format. TBRL has specified a strict prescribed proforma — using anything else will get your application rejected without any communication.

Step 2: Get the Request Letter from Your College

Your Principal / HOD / TPO must write a Request Letter for Internship in the exact format attached with the advertisement. This letter must:

  • Be on the college letterhead
  • Have the office seal
  • Confirm the internship is part of your degree curriculum
  • Confirm you’ll be physically present for minimum 15 working days/month

This letter is mandatory. No letter = automatic rejection.

Step 3: Gather Your Documents

Attach the following with your application:

  • ✅ Filled application form (in capital letters)
  • ✅ Request Letter from Principal/HOD/TPO (in prescribed format)
  • ✅ Mark sheets of all completed semesters (showing CGPA / % clearly)
  • ✅ Copy of Aadhaar Card
  • ✅ Copy of College Identity Card
  • ✅ Passport size photograph (to be affixed on the form)

Step 4: Write on the Envelope

This is often skipped and causes delays in processing. On the top of your envelope, write:

“Application for Paid Internship: Starting July 2026” “Branch Code: _______ ” (fill your branch code)

Step 5: Post It Before 25 May 2026

Send your complete application to:

The Director Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory Defence Research and Development Organization Government of India, Ministry of Defence Sector-30, Chandigarh – 160030 (Kind Attention: HRD Division)

Use Speed Post or Registered Post — keep the tracking receipt. Applications received after 25 May 2026 will not be considered, and TBRL will not entertain any communication about late applications.

Selection Process — How TBRL Picks Interns

Selection is purely on merit. Here’s the order of how they evaluate:

  1. Cumulative marks percentage / CGPA across all completed semesters — this is the primary filter
  2. If two candidates have identical marks — the older candidate (by Date of Birth) is given preference
  3. Shortlisted candidates may be called for an online or telephonic interview
  4. Document verification follows

Selected students will be notified via email only — to the email ID mentioned in the application form. Unselected candidates will not be informed. So don’t wait for a rejection letter — there won’t be one.

Intimation to selected students: Third / Fourth week of June 2026

Documents to Carry at the Time of Joining (If Selected)

Keep these ready in advance — you’ll need them on Day 1:

  • TPO Letter for 6-month training duration
  • Bonafide and Character Certificate from college
  • NOC from college (original, on letterhead)
  • Police Verification Certificate from your hometown
  • Aadhaar Card (original + copy)
  • College ID Card
  • 3 passport size photographs
  • All original mark sheets for verification
  • Bank account details for stipend transfer
  • Signed undertakings: Official Secrets Act, IT Rules, secrecy norms

The police verification is something most students delay — start that process the moment you receive your selection email. It takes time.

Common Questions About TBRL Internship 2026

I have a CGPA — how do I convert it to percentage? Your college must do the conversion using their official conversion formula and mention it in the Request Letter. TBRL will not accept self-calculated conversions. Get it in writing from your institution.

Can I apply if my internship isn’t mandatory in my curriculum? No. TBRL has clearly stated the internship must be a formal part of your degree course. Voluntary internships are not considered.

What happens if I have one backlog that I’ve already cleared? The advertisement says “students with backlogs are not eligible” — if the backlog is cleared and doesn’t appear on your current academic record, you may be fine. But if it shows anywhere on your marksheet, declare it honestly. Suppression of facts leads to disqualification at any stage, even after joining.

Will TBRL provide any housing or transport? No. Accommodation, transport, food, medical — all expenses are your own responsibility.

Can I apply for more than one branch? Only apply for the branch that matches your enrolled discipline exactly. Applying for multiple branches is not permitted.

Is there any chance of a job offer after the internship? TBRL has explicitly stated they have no obligation to offer employment, and interns cannot claim any right to a job based on internship completion. That said, the experience and certificate are strong assets for future DRDO recruitment exams and PSU applications.

Should You Apply?

If you meet the eligibility criteria — yes, without overthinking it.

A DRDO internship at a defence lab is rare. Most students don’t know these advertisements exist until they’ve passed the deadline. The stipend won’t make you rich, but the certificate, the experience, and what it tells a future employer about your caliber — that’s the actual value here.

The only real decision is whether you can commit to 6 months away from home, in Panchkula, without the safety net of leaving early. If you can, apply today.
