GTRE DRDO Bengaluru Walk-in Interview 2026 — 150 Apprentice Posts Open for BE, Diploma, ITI and Graduates

GTRE released this one without much noise but honestly it deserves more attention than it is getting. 150 seats at a DRDO lab, one full year of hands-on training, government apprenticeship certificate at the end — and the application process is just walking in with your marksheets on 6th June.

No portal registration headache beyond NATS or NAPS. No exam fee. No admit card that takes three months to arrive. You show up at their Bengaluru campus on Saturday the 6th, they check your documents on the spot, and the process moves from there.

If you finished your BE, Diploma, or ITI anywhere between 2022 and now and you have not locked in anything solid yet — read this fully before scrolling past.

What is GTRE and Why Does This Matter

Most people have heard of DRDO but not everyone knows what specifically happens at GTRE. This is the lab that spent decades developing India’s own aircraft engine — the Kaveri — the one designed to power the Tejas fighter jet. That programme alone pushed Indian engineers into territory most countries never attempt. The people working at this campus are not shuffling files. They are building things.

A year here as an apprentice trainee puts you in that environment. You get the certificate, yes, but more than that you get a year of context that most fresh graduates simply do not have. For PSU exams, for GATE interviews, for private aerospace and defence companies — that one line on your resume does real work.

Date, Time and How to Reach the Venue

Walk-in Date: Saturday, 6th June 2026 Report by: 9:00 AM Address: Gas Turbine Research Establishment, CV Raman Nagar, Bengaluru – 560 093 Landmark: Near Bagmane Tech Park and LRDE

Getting There

Getting to GTRE from different parts of Bengaluru is fairly straightforward.

From Majestic or City Railway Bus Stand, take bus number 314E, 314B or 315MDF. From Shivaji Nagar the options are 314, 314A and 314C. From KR Market take the 318. All of these stop at LRDE Bus Stop — get off there and the campus is close by.

If you are coming by metro, the nearest station is Swami Vivekananda Road. From there it is a short auto ride to the campus.

Who Can Apply — Eligibility

Go through every point here. The conditions that catch people most often are the year of passing and the portal registration. Both are checked at the door.

Age

Minimum 18 years as on 6th June 2026. Maximum age as per Govt. of India provisions under the Apprentices Act.

Nationality

Indian nationals only.

Year of Passing — Read This Twice

Your qualifying exam must have been passed in 2022 or later. If you passed before 2022 — even by one month — you are not eligible. This applies to every category without exception.

How You Studied

Only candidates who studied as regular students qualify. If your degree or diploma came through distance education or correspondence, it does not count here.

Result Must Be Declared

Your result needs to be out before the interview date. If you are still waiting on results, your application will not be processed. A provisional degree certificate is fine but only at the time of joining — not at the walk-in itself.

NATS or NAPS Registration — Non-Negotiable

You cannot walk in without this. Register first, then come.

BE, Diploma and General Graduate candidates — Register on NATS at nats.education.gov.in

ITI candidates — Register on NAPS at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in

Print your profile after registering. That printout is one of your required documents on interview day.

Other Conditions That Make You Ineligible

If you have already completed an apprenticeship anywhere or are currently doing one — you cannot apply. If you have worked or trained for one year or more after finishing your qualifying exam — also not eligible. And if your current qualification is higher than what the post requires, same answer — not eligible. A B.Tech holder cannot apply against a Diploma vacancy.

Stipend

The notification uses the standard government line — “as per Govt. of India norms.” Based on current Apprentices Act rates, ITI-level trainees typically receive around ₹5,000 per month and graduate-level trainees around ₹9,000. These figures get revised periodically so check the latest on NATS or NAPS before joining.

How Selection Works

There is no fixed pattern announced. If a large number of candidates show up for a particular branch, expect a written test. If turnout is lower, merit-based shortlisting or a short interview may be enough. GTRE decides based on actual numbers on the day.

Document verification always comes first. If your papers have any issue — wrong format, missing certificate, CGPA not converted to percentage — you will not move to the next stage regardless of your marks.

Shortlisted candidates are informed by email. Results also go up on drdo.gov.in. If you are not selected, there will be no separate communication from GTRE.

Documents to Carry

Bring originals and one set of self-attested photocopies for every item on this list. Missing even one document at the verification counter usually means stepping aside.

  • NATS or NAPS profile printout
  • 10th mark sheet and pass certificate
  • All semester or year-wise mark sheets of your qualifying exam
  • Degree, Diploma, or ITI certificate — or provisional degree certificate
  • Aadhaar card
  • Caste certificate if you belong to SC, ST, or OBC Non-Creamy Layer
  • Two recent passport-size photographs
  • Filled Registration Form — Annexure I from the official notification PDF
  • Signed Undertaking — Annexure II from the official notification PDF

Fill Annexure I and II the night before. Do not leave it for the morning.

Things to Know Before You Go

No job at the end — This is an apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, not a recruitment drive. There is no employment offer when training ends. You will sign a written undertaking confirming this before joining.

CGPA conversion — If your marksheet shows CGPA and not percentage, convert it using your university’s official formula and bring that conversion document. The verification team checks this specifically.

Police verification — Selected candidates need to submit a police verification certificate before joining. It should cover the last one year of your current residence and your permanent address both.

Medical certificate — A fitness certificate from any government hospital is required. Final selection depends on meeting the health standards laid out in the Apprentices Act.

Travel and stay — GTRE does not cover travel costs or accommodation during selection or training. That is entirely on you.

Canvassing — Any attempt to influence the selection process gets you disqualified immediately. This applies at every stage.

Vacancy changes — GTRE can increase, reduce, or cancel vacancies at any point without explanation. Do not book non-refundable travel too far in advance.

Step by Step — How to Apply

Step 1 Register on NATS at nats.education.gov.in if you are a BE, Diploma, or General Graduate candidate. Register on NAPS at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in if you are an ITI candidate. Do this before anything else.

Step 2 Print your NATS or NAPS profile once registration is confirmed. Keep it with your documents.

Step 3 Download the official GTRE notification from drdo.gov.in. Print Annexure I and Annexure II. Fill both carefully and sign.

Step 4 Collect all required documents. Make one photocopy of each and self-attest every page.

Step 5 Reach GTRE campus at CV Raman Nagar, Bengaluru by 9:00 AM on 6th June 2026. Carry everything in a folder so verification goes smoothly.

Zero fee. Zero online form. Just walk in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any application fee? None at all. The walk-in is completely free for every candidate.

I passed my degree in 2021. Can I still apply? No. The cutoff is 2022. Anyone who passed before that year is not eligible regardless of branch or percentage.

What happens if I am not registered on NATS or NAPS? You will not be considered. The registration is mandatory and is checked before anything else at the walk-in.

Will GTRE offer me a job after the one year training? No. The notification states this clearly and you sign an undertaking to that effect. This is training, not recruitment.

My results are not out yet. Can I still come for the walk-in? No. Results must be declared before the interview date. Awaited results are not accepted.

My marksheet has CGPA. Is that a problem? Not if you convert it properly. Use your university’s official conversion formula, bring proof of that formula, and carry it to the walk-in.

Can I apply for a lower category post even if I have a higher degree? No. Higher qualification than what the post requires makes you ineligible.

Is reservation applicable? Yes, as per the Apprentices Act 1961. SC, ST, and OBC Non-Creamy Layer candidates must bring valid certificates issued by the competent authority.

I already did an apprenticeship two years ago. Can I apply again? No. Candidates who have previously completed apprenticeship training under any organisation are not eligible.

Where do I check my result after the walk-in? Results are published on www.drdo.gov.in. Selected candidates also get an email with joining instructions.
